On Saturday Jeremy and I made the trip from St. Louis to Louisville, having traveled from Omaha the previous day. As we entered Kentucky, a man on the radio was talking about the "War of Northern Aggression," and we knew we had entered the southern states.
During our short stay here with my dear sister, we have forced her and her husband to partake in several tourist traps such as the following...
A short tour of the bourbon belt, including the Bourbon Heritage Center at Heaven Hills Distillery and a walk around the outside of the Maker's Mark Distillery which had closed 10 short minutes prior to our arrival via curvy country roads. While Jen and I were not so impressed with the bourbon, the tour was very interesting, and Jeremy seemed to enjoy the tasting.
On the way home (but very out of the way), we stopped at a small town restaurant with great southern food. Then we proceeded even further out of the way to explore the great Perryville Battle Ground from the "War of Northern Aggression." We even got to see a real live cannon!
The next day Tyler took us to the Patton Museum here at Fort Knox to prove that the army has even bigger cannons now... also very interesting...more tanks than I've seen in my whole life and all extremely fuel inefficient.
Following the museum, Jen took Jeremy and I on a tour of downtown Louisville. As you can see from the picture, we stood at the base of the tallest bat in the world. The Louisville Slugger Museum piqued our interest, but alas they are closed on Sunday evenings.
Contrary to what my sister had told me previous to my arrival, it apparently rains in Kentucky constantly. However, I have definitely enjoyed seeing my sister (and Tyler). Today we continue on to the home of the Cardinals, as well the rest of my family and friends.
